Graffiti Art or Urban Vandalism?

Ancient forms of graffiti have been found in the caves. Before seeing them appear in the early 1960s in New York, they also appeared in ancient Greece and during the Roman Empire period.

When they started to appear in the great American cities, they reconstructed the trains and the facades of buildings. Graffiti is an art form that was used to mark the territory and graffiti artists often worked in groups.

The New York Times first used the expression "Graffiti" from the novelist Norman Mailer, in the meantime some art galleries began to buy the first works.

The Mayor of New York, John Lindsay, was the first to declare war on this new art form, limiting spaces and forcing artists to use the roofs of buildings or other spaces for fear of being arrested by the police.

Instead, Peter Vallone suggested the idea that Graffiti are legal if they get a permit. The debate is still open today.

Graffiti is a form of art and expression, clearly if done on unauthorized property it becomes a crime.

We support art and we stand for freedom of expression! Life is made of colors and colors are life.
